OUR SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
We strive to incorporate sustainability into our core operations at our workplace and in our Landscape Architecture design solutions through internal and external efforts. Specifically, we adopt the following policies and practices:
Responsible waste management practices
Toxics reduction
Conservation of energy, water, natural resources, and use of renewable energy
Promotion of environmental education, community engagement, and environmentally responsible partnerships
Responsible waste management practices
We commit to –
Reduce waste involved in the construction process by repurposing and donating materials from demolition processes or other traditionally waste-producing operations.
Recycling and composting all recyclable or compostable waste in our day-to-day operations by utilizing recycling and composting bins and local collection services for all paper, cardboard, wood, metals, bottles, plastics, packaging, and cans.
Discourage the use of disposable products by using washable/reusable items.
Reduce the waste generated by donating reusable office items (appliances, electronic equipment, and furniture) to charitable organizations.
Reduce construction waste by recycling or composting plant materials. We vow to mulch or bury trees to maintain carbon sequestration.
Reuse envelopes and packaging.
Promote the use of natural lighting and renewable energy in our office environment and project designs, where feasible.
Utilize specific construction-centric waste management facilities for the dumping of concrete and other construction materials.
Toxics Reduction
We minimize the use of toxic materials to protect employee health and the environment. Specifically, we do the following –
Purchase low to non-toxic janitorial cleaning products (only those approved for use by the CA Green Business Program). Certified by Green Seal, UL Ecologo, EPA Safer Choice, or with a rating from the Environmental Working Group of an ‘A’ or ‘B.’
Use recycled-content products, materials, and supplies when available.
Recycle universal wastes (electronics, batteries, fluorescent light tubes, used motor oil) and prohibit purchasing materials that may lead to hazardous waste generation.
Discourage the use of insecticides, pesticides, pre-emergent chemicals, glyphosate or toxic herbicide products in our landscape maintenance practices.
Conservation of energy, water, natural resources, and use of renewable energy
Water Conservation
We commit to using water-saving technologies in our office, including motion-activated faucets and reusable water bottles, as well as high-efficiency washing machines.
In our projects, we commit to using water resources as wisely as possible, by utilizing drip irrigation, timed watering, rain-sensing irrigation systems, and rainwater capture systems wherever possible. In addition, we pledge to use plants native or adapted to our projects’ local ecosystem to reduce the intensive water use of many non-native landscape plant alternatives.
Energy Conservation
Braid.Work commits to reducing energy consumption in our workspaces by using collaborative coworking spaces to minimize energy consumption when compared with a traditional, individual office environment.
We commit to using renewable and alternative energy sources whenever possible to the greatest allowable extent, both in our in-office and hybrid work environments as well as in our built projects.
We commit to using energy-efficient lighting and power in all our installations
Conserve Fossil Fuels
We shall conserve fossil fuels by:
We have always provided hybrid and remote work opportunities for employees, reducing the need for emissions during business travel. When possible, we conduct client meetings virtually to reduce vehicle use. We limit air travel and only do so on commercial flights when virtual support for our clients is insufficient.
Our company encourages alternative modes of transportation including electric vehicles, public transit, and biking to work.
Employee Education
Employee Education
We compensate employees for fees and time spent completing sustainability trainings including but not limited to LEED Green Associate and LEED AP BD+C certifications, as well as SITES AP certification, and require that employees are actively pursuing at least one of the above certifications at a time if they have not yet achieved them.
We employ at least one full-time employee whose responsibilities include maintaining and enacting our Sustainability Plan, including engaging other employees in sustainable practices and ensuring the plan is available to the public and employees.
Our Sustainability Plan is communicated publicly on our website and employees are notified of any changes as they occur.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
We pledge to participate in community events via volunteering at least once a year, and provide one free paid day of VTO (Volunteer Time Off) per employee.
Our designs utilize plantings available from local nurseries, and building materials from local vendors.
Braid.Work is actively in a Certified Green Business in California, and pursuing certification in Colorado, and gives preference to vendors and partners who are certified California or Colorado Green Businesses, ensuring that they are committed to green business practices.
Through the course of our work, we endeavor to promote these policies to other companies, organizations, and individuals. Through our time, projects, and volunteer efforts, we strive to better the environment and contribute the a higher level of sustainability in the landscape architecture and real estate development fields.
